Fluxx
“Fluxx” is a card game of constant change. Player preference, cut throat strategy, speculative coupling, blind faith, chance; all play a role in the shaping of "Fluxx," and the results range from the casual to the epic.
First let me introduce you to “Fluxx” in the way that I was introduced. It was at a friend of a friend’s first apartment after liberal arts college in Madison, WI. The four bedroom had a fish bowl of beer bottle caps, a crate of Legos, various cereal boxes, a poorly padded sound studio, and on the cable spool table lay a deck of “Fluxx” version 2.1.

The rules start off simply enough: draw a card, play a card. Eventually someone plays a card with a goal, and the first to reach it, wins. However, goal cards can be replaced, along with how many cards a player can draw, play, have in front of them; sometimes cards are even traded with other players, either blindly or deliberately. Strategy is important, but it’s fleeting - players must be able to adapt and maintain acute awareness through frequent change.
The goals themselves are a mix of nostalgia, comedy, and poignant associations – most connecting to a player holding specified “keeper” cards. Some example goals:
Do not fear the uncertainties of “Fluxx.” My personal introduction to the card game was wonderfully suspect; it was at this unique time when change was my only constant. I encourage everyone to pick up a deck at any point of their lives, to be reminded of and to exploit the dangers and delights of change.
Play "Fluxx"
